What makes SUMO different
SUMO is a vendor-neutral Dynamic Rating platform, designed inside a transmission system operator and in daily production since 2017.
SUMO is a vendor-neutral Dynamic Rating platform — designed from the ground up inside a transmission system operator, proven on the TSO's network, and continuously evolved through nine years of live operational use. These are the things you will not find together anywhere else.
TSO-developed and operated
Built inside ELES and in production use since 2017, SUMO has evolved through real operational events and proven transmission system operation. It reduces costly remedial actions in both N and N-1 overload situations — around 50 annual overloads in normal topology and 500 in N-1.
Vendor-neutral, hardware-agnostic
Indirect DLR from day one, with no dependency on dedicated sensors or preferred hardware vendors. Where sensors exist, SUMO integrates any vendor and any protocol through the same platform, eliminating lock-in at both hardware and upstream levels.
Control room & enterprise integration
Direct EMS/SCADA integration through standardized utility protocols (ICCP, IEC 60870-5-104, DNP3, OPC UA). Open REST APIs and an integration bus connect the surrounding OT and IT systems, while virtualization and containerization support modern utility IT architectures. Continuous monitoring of every module, link and data feed gives full operational visibility in mission-critical environments.
Real-time operations and forecasting
Real-time span-level ampacity plus D-2 to intra-day forecast horizons turn DLR from a real-time tool into a platform for operational planning, congestion management and proactive grid optimization. SUMO continuously tracks each conductor's thermal state for time-to-overheat and emergency ratings, supporting CIGRE TB 601 and IEEE 738-2023.
N and N-1 contingency
Full N and N-1 contingency awareness is embedded directly in the system, giving operators visibility into the impact of potential contingencies across the network before an event occurs — enabling proactive decision-making.
Full DTR and anti-icing scope
Dynamic Transformer Rating and inverse DLR — including minimum-current calculations to prevent ice accretion — are implemented as native platform modules within the same operational environment.
Critical-infrastructure security
An industrial-grade operational platform for mission-critical utility environments, with redundant deployment architectures for SCADA-grade availability. Operato is ISO 27001 certified and the platform is designed in alignment with IEC 62443-3-3 Security Level 3.
Rich archive and analytics
A continuous archive of every span-level input, calculation and rating feeds a built-in analytics module — the same trusted operational data SUMO uses in real time also powers trend analysis, post-event review, regulatory reporting and CAPEX justification.
In production at
Real grids. Real operators. Verifiable results.
ELES — Slovenia
Daily use since 2017. 38 lines, 10 transformers and 2 phase-shift transformers monitored every day. Higher capacity 95% of the time, with a 15–20% median uplift.
HOPS — Croatia
Nationwide deployment covering more than 2,000 km of transmission lines.
Alberta — Canada
Unlocking wind farm power, making the grid ready for introduction of renewables.
Trust, built through data
SUMO lets operators verify, not just trust. Every input, every calculation, every output, on every span — captured continuously, analysed continuously, and available for inspection at any time.
Every signal, every span
Weather inputs, line measurements, calculation outputs, alerts and operator actions are all stored continuously, with deeper retention on critical spans. Nothing the platform does happens inside a black box.
Continuous self-validation
Built-in analytics evaluate SUMO against itself: forecast versus actual, model versus measurement, span versus span. Performance is monitored every minute the system runs — not audited once at handover.
Audit trail by design
Every operational decision SUMO contributes to has a full audit trail behind it — straightforward post-event review, regulatory reporting and continual platform improvement. Operators run the system knowing every claim can be checked.
Trust is not asserted. It is demonstrated — based on solid data, confirmed with analytics, for nine years and counting.
